Carnevale di Venezia 2011
This year's Carnevale kicked off with a special preview weekend and the “Grand Toast of Venice” as the opening event. The joyful “cheers” for tourists and local people officially welcomed the Carnival with a wine fountain pouring red wine for all to drink and celebrate in Piazzetta San Marco.
The 2011 theme encompasses two ideas, of which the first is a return to the classicism, represented by the figure of princess Sissi, seen as all women’s personification. The second is the concept of unification, as 2011 is the 150th anniversary of Italy’s unity.
